F1 news roundup

Hamilton wins in the rain
As always, Spa threw the dice today - with periods of shows and heavier rain not denting Lewis Hamilton's lead in the Belgian Grand Prix - despite 2 safety car periods.

Title challenger Jenson Button was removed from the race by the wayward Sebastian Vettel who was handed a 'drive-thru' penalty by way of compensation. The Red Bull driver then proceeded to puncture a rear tyre through contact with one of the Force India cars.

Ferrari's chosen driver rather stupidly threw away a good points haul by 'getting it wrong' between Malmedy and Rivage, ending the day stuck across the track prompting the 2nd safety car of the day.
Webber wins in Hungary
Mark Webber took the win at the Hungaroring, from Fernando Alonso and a hard charging Sebastian Vettel - who was recovering from a drive-thru penalty following an infringement under the safety car.

Choas ensued practically from the get-go - whilst 1st corner carnage didn't happen, 4 wide doesn't really work and a number of cars were out of position.

The safety car changed the face of the race with Webber staying out to take the lead. Meanwhile in the pits Renault released Kubica into the path of Adrian Sutil's Force India whilst MercedesGP's Rosberg stopped at the end of the pit lane with just 3 wheels on his wagon! Wheel 4 was collected by the Williams team!
Ferrari fined.
Ferrari were fined, post-race, by the stewards at the German Grand Prix today - and referred to World Motor Sport Council. Full story - see Formula1.com.
Alonso wins.... F1 loses
Fernando Alonso has taken the chequered flag at the German Grand Prix, after Ferrari manipulated the result through the use of team orders.

Lap 1 leader Felipe Massa was ordered to let Alonso past with the statement 'Alonso is faster than you' - once the move was complete, Rob Smedley, Felipe's race engineer apologised to his driver. It is reported that the Ferrari pit wall then finished the race in silence.

We have updated the race points to reflect the events - however we would caution that these remain provisional.
5s penalties applied
The FIA stewards have handed 5 second penalties to 9 drivers for safety car rule breaches at the European Grand Prix. Jenson BUtton, Rubens Barrichello, Nico Hulkenberg, Robert Kubica, Vitaly Petrov, Adrian Sutil, Sebastian Buemi, Pedro De La Rosa and Vitantonio Liuzzi have had the penalty added to their respective race times. The only substantive changes are the promotion of Fernando Alonso to 8th from 9th place in the final result, and that of Nico Rosberg who takes 10th from De La Rosa. Timo Glock also had 20 seconds added to his time for ignoring blue flags.
